Project Search is Duke’s newest pre-orientation program! Designed as a gateway into undergraduate research at Duke, the program will provide incoming freshmen a glimpse of what drives the scientists and the discoveries of your high-powered research university. Duke is home to pioneers that can read primates' minds, create artificial chromosomes, and engineer artificial blood vessels; and these labs all have undergraduates! If you're interested in research at Duke and beyond, pSearch will help lower the “activation barrier” needed to start your own research projects at Duke the moment you arrive. In this summer's pilot program, 10 freshmen interested in the biological sciences will be selected. pSearch is looking for students who have LIMITED OR NO PREVIOUS RESEARCH EXPERIENCE, but are contemplating a career in science.
Starting on August 1, pSearch will…
- Teach basic lab skills in purifying proteins that Duke professors need for their research.
- Provide exposure to a wide variety of life sciences and personal mentoring with research faculty – all in a fun and relaxed atmosphere
- Show what Duke and RDU have to offer for entertainment: swimming and BBQ at Falls Lake, catching a homerun with the historic Durham Bulls, satisfying your artsy side at the Nasher Museum of Art, and much more.
